Soul Gem Capacity
      #2825011 - 07/19/04 09:01 AM

I know that each creature has a soul value which decides which type of soul gem you need to capture thier souls.

1. Where can I find the capacity of the various soul gems?
2. Is it possible to change the capacity?
3. Is it possible to create new soul gems?

under magic effects cs has this to say about soultrap

"Traps the soul of the target creature in the smallest empty soul gem in the caster's inventory, if the creature is killed during the effect's duration."

Does this mean if the only soul gem i have is a petty soulgem, I can trap a winged twilight in it? errr pretty sure thats not right.

That should read "...the smallest empty soul gem in the caster's inventory that has the capacity to hold the creature's soul..."

Which is the way it works in the game...

The capacity of a soul gem is 3 times its base cost. You can increase the capacity by either increasing the value of the gem or increasing the value of "fSoulGemMult" in Gameplay Settings.

It's a formula based on the value of a soul gem; editing that will change the capacity. See the GMST section of Scripting for Dummies for information about the multiplier (two GMSTs are related to soul gem use).

Also, I haven't tried it, but you might be able to create a new soul gem the way you do any other object. I'm guessing that you have to follow the same Object ID pattern as the other soul gems: i.e., just change the last part of the Object ID and leave the prefix alone.

So you can't create new soulgems, but I think you can change the capacity of the soulgems. Try change the price of the soulgem. I think the capacity of soulgem depends on its cost. Try modify it.

Okay, I'm done. The capacity IS DEPENDS ON THE PRICE of the soulgem. I changed the price of a petty soulgem and I can trapped a golden saint to its inside.

Just working on Joseph Curwen's "Pseudomonarchy of Creatures and Demons" (a detailed handbook listing the values and charges of all filled gems). Here's what I found out: Soul Gems - Values & Charges

Guess that's what you're looking for.

Best wishes,

Zeph
